people eating tasty animals

“To supply one person with a meat habit for a year requires three-and-a-quarter acres of land. To supply one vegetarian with food for a year requires one half-acre. To supply a vegan requires only one-sixth of an acre. In other words, a given acreage can feed twenty times as many people eating a vegan diet as it could people eating a standard American diet.

Lester Brown of the Overseas Development Council has estimated that if Americans were to reduce their meat consumption by only 10 percent, it would free over 12 million tons of grain annually for human consumption. That, all by itself, would be enough to adequately feed every one of the 60 million human beings who will starve to death on the planet this year.” John Robbins, “Diet for a New America”. pg 352

Think about it. Make a change. For yourself AND your planet!!

Start one day a week. Paul McCartney's Meatless Monday is a brilliant idea.

If you have a dog or a cat or a pony for a pet think about the difference between their sweet souls and those of the pigs and cows in the massive factory farms we support every day!
Wait... there is no difference!

taste it!

Quite literally bursting with love today. The kind of love that makes me weep. The kind of love where your heart aches for someone who is mourning a loss. The kind of love where you are so worried about someone that you can't sleep at night. The kind of love that makes you do just about anything for someone. You can never say it enough.

My mother and father I love you! My sisters ohh sweet sisters I love you. Big little brother I miss you and I love you! Kellen and Olivia I love you! My love for Olivia gives me a glimpse of what it might be like to have a child and I love her probably only a fraction of how much her mother loves her. A fraction of how much my mother loves me, it's a beautiful but somewhat painful kind of love.

My cousins and aunts and uncles and dear neighbors and sweet friends I love you too!

The end.

I am a foul beast

Last week, I think on Thursday actually, I made delicious incredible chickpea cutlets. You can find the recipe online. To be vague it consists of mashed up chickpeas, vital wheat gluten, spices. It is fun to make because you really have to get your hands in there. You knead it for quite some time until strings of gluten form. After you've got a good ball of glutenous yummy you separate them into patties and you can either pan fry or bake them. They go great on sandwiches, or smothered in gravy, or today I cut it up and served it over a spinach salad. Yum!

For the past several days i've been smelling something absolutely foul on my right hand. My middle finger to be exact. I wash my hands. Scrub scrub scrub. Hand sanatize. Put fancy lotions on. This smell would not go away. I became mildly obsessed with it. Sniffing my middle finger all day long trying to figure out what the hell I could possibly have put just this one finger in to cause such a rotten stench!!

I figured it out today! The mystery has been solved my friends. I am closing the file on the Stench Of The Middle Finger Mystery.

Are you ready?

Oh gosh...

I didn't take my rings off when I was kneading the chickpea cutlet dough. A giant glob of dough (garlic, onion powder, chickpeas) got jammed up in the hole in the back of one of my sterling silver rings. Its just been hanging out in there for ohh almost a week now.

Cool.

I suppose I can be thankful that I don't eat meat. Can you imagine having a piece of old raw meat jammed in your ring for a week? Holy Batman!

when I grow up

I'll always be by your side
Even when you're down and out
I'll always be by your side
Even when you're down and out
I just wanted to be your housewife
All i wanted was to be your housewife
I'll iron your clothes
I'll shine your shoes
I'll make your bed
And cook your food
I'll never cheat
I'll be the best girl you'd ever meet
And for a diamond ring
I'll do these kinds of things
I'll scrub your floor
Never be a bore
I'd tuck you in
I do not snore
I'd wear your black eyes
Bake you apple pies
I won't ask whys
And i try not to cry
I'll always be by your side
Even when you're down and out
I'll always be by your side
Even when you're down and out
And its nearly midnight
And all i want with my life
Is to be a housewife
Is to be a housewife
'Cause it's nearly midnight
And all i want with my life
Is to die a housewife

Feeling Inspired I suppose

Rummaging through my desk at work I came across a pile of burned CDs that had tons and tons (And tons) of old photos on them. It was pretty interesting to go through and see what I was doing 3 and 4 years ago and to see how much I have changed for the better (and probably for the worse too but we wont focus on that).

I basically look the same as I did in 2nd grade. Physically, other than expanding and shrinking in the waist line, I look the exact same. Its pretty funny.

This one made me laugh- I remember this night really well.

What is my hair? Dennis the Menace is buggin 'cause i'm stealing his combover glory.

I've been MIA from the blogosphere (thats right Kate I said that) but I've been actively living, I assure you.
I'll share some photos from my recent past.

Christine and I at rollerskating party. This was before I jumped on someones stupid scooter and crashed into a large group of people. Looks like i'm about to say something. Not sure what.

Meg and I at my work Christmas party. Not one bit of food for me to eat. Lame.

Ryder Turned three a little while ago and Jill made him the most adorable little train cake. Look! He absolutely loves the train. Meg brought him downtown recently and we all rode trax together and it was so freaking cute to see how excited he was. He's is such a little stud I can't wait to see how he turns out :) Plus he loves me, he really loves me and always runs right up to me and gives me big hugs. So cute.

Looooook how little they used to be!! These were taken almost 3 years ago when they were just brand new kitty babies. There is a surprise coming to my house soon. A few people know, but most of you don't. I'm not going to say anything until after the deal is done. I understand what i'm doing is going to be scrutinized severely. I'm doing it anyway. I guess thats just my nature.

the silver lining

I love my mom and dad.
The end.
